India's national engine Empty
PostSubject: India's national engine   India's national engine I_icon_minitimeWed Jun 27, 2012 8:05 pm

There seems to be a lot of confusion and speculation about the 1248cc turbo Diesel engine, which is resorted to as the national engine of India when it comes to its tuning capabilities.

Unfortunately a lot of things are written by people who do not have even seen the internals of any of the 1.3 M-Jet variants.

Outside of India the 1.3 M-Jet engine start at 70bhp and the most powerful variant is currently 105bhp, although another variant has been shelved, which was meant to be in the first evolution 120bhp.

With a lot of effort, the engine was used to extract 160bhp by a German tuner (TUV certified) and had to be at the same time drive-able.

All variants produced have identical internal parts and they can handle torque delivieries in excess of 300Nm. However, this might not apply to the gearboxes.

Anyone considering tuning this engine can be put at rest. The engine can take a lot more than in stock and will not lose any lif expectancy worth mentioning.

Specific tuning guides are looked at separately from this thread.
